Wound care
Introduction:
Any person while doing any work can suddenly got
injured and have wounds in his extremities or in his body. This can cause pain
and discomfort to the person according to his wound type. There were many types
of wounds injuries and according to each type the management will be different.
First, we must know the structure and function of the skin, after that, the
types of wounds, and according to each type what is the management for it.
Structure and function of the skin:
The skin is the essential part of the body, it’s the
first defense mechanism of the body. The skin consists of layers:
1- The outer layer of the skin provides a
barrier that prevents the entry of any harmful elements into the body called
the epidermis
2- The middle layer contains
hair follicles and sweat glands that moisten the skin called the dermis
3- The inner layer is made of fat and
connective tissue that gives shape to the organs called subcutaneous tissues
The skin also has a vital role in the
body, so the function of the skin was:
1. Protection:
protection from pathogens entry into the body
2. Sensation:
contains nerve endings that give heat and cold feelings.
3. Storage:
acts as a storage for fats and water
4. Water
barrier: The skin acts as a barrier for nutrients so they do not get washed out
of the body.
Types of the wounds:
Many types of wounds were according by the penetrating the skin or trauma to the skin
(can be close or open). First, if the skin were penetrated and injured by any
objects can be as:

Incision or surgical wound
2-
The wound caused by objects like a gun or knife
3-
Burn wound
4-
Bites and stings from any animals or humans
Second, wounds that can
be caused by trauma and cause:
1-
Abrasion to the skin
2-
Laceration to the skin
Signs and symptoms of wound:
The signs and symptoms
of the wound can be generalized or specific according to the type of wound
mostly the person will feel pain in the wound site if the wound were open the
person may have:
1-
Pain in the wound site
2-
Bleeding in the wound site
3-
Serous with blood
4-
Redness around the wound
5-
Swelling around the wound
For the close wound,
there were some similar symptoms to the open wound but there were some extra
symptoms like:
1-
bruises in the hit site
2-
Swelling on the hit site
3-
Pain
4-
Stretching of the skin
5-
Redness on the hit site
Emergency management of wounds at home:
If an incident happened
at home and you or any family members got injured with a dangerous open wound
do the following:
1-
Take the person away from a dangerous site
2-
Put the patient in a safe place
away from danger and call for help and an ambulance
3-
identify the patient, explain
the procedure what you will do for him
4-
Let the patient lie down to
prevent fainting or lowering of the blood pressure if the persons become pale
that his blood pressure drops down follow instructions for lowering blood

5-
Put on disposable gloves
6-
Instruct the patient not to
move his injured site that will be affected
7-
Put a clean pad or dressing on the affected
injured site with pressure to stop bleeding
8-
Secure the pad by bandaging
9-
Send the patient to the hospital
Conclusion:
Any person at home can
face many health problems specially cut wounds times you can manage it but some
wounds must directly be taken to the hospital for management because the
complications from wound cut can affect the victim more like infection in the
site, oozing, and pus, also if the person injured with some unclean object may
need tetanus injection to prevent blood poisoning. So, the person must be
cautious and must take care to prevent any injury to occur.
